Scattering of Neutrons and X-rays

VVZ CR n/a

Last Updated: 2026-02-05 14:59:50

Objective

A comprehensive understanding of the interaction of (thermal) neutrons and X-rays with condensed matter and details on the instrumentation and methods designed to use these probes in the study of materials.

Content

Interaction of X-rays and thermal neutrons with matter. Laboratory and synchrotron X-ray sources ,spallation and reactor neutron sources, set-ups for scattering processes for different energy /scattering-vector resolutions. Applications to materials science to study structure, defects and strain fields, diffusion, surfaces and interfaces, phonons and magnons. X-ray microscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy for analysis of microstructure and chemical bonding properties.
