Abstract

The seminar about "Geometric numerical integration" was based on the book by E. Haierer, C. Lubich and G. Wanner of that title (Springer 2002). Each student had to give two 45 minute lectures on particular aspects of structure preserving numerical methods for ordinary differential equations(included MATLAB implementation).

Objective

The seminar is meant to convey insights into the theory and algorithms underlying structure preserving numerical methods for the approximate solution of special ordinary differential equations. Moreover, the student should learn to prepare and deliver a self-contained concise presentation of a particular topic.
