Introduction to Usability Evaluation

Grundlagen der Usability Evaluation

VVZ CR n/a

Last Updated: 2026-02-05 14:59:56

Abstract

The lecture introduces the students to a comprehensive introduction to methods of usability evaluation. The main part of the theoretical content is offered online. Additional topics are covered in face-to-face lectures. The second, practical part allows students to apply the acquired theoretical and connectional knowledge and put it into practice.

Objective

Learning Objective The learning objective of this lecture is to provide for the students an integrated insight in the questions, methods and practice of usability evaluation. We have implemented the integrated approach by teaching both basics in software-ergonomics as well as user-centered design and by linking these aspects to the development process of software. Usability evaluation methods employ quality criteria, which already should be thought of during the development process. Hence, evaluation consists of iterative steps during the development process, and builds on basic knowledge in the related disciplines (software ergonomics, HCI, and User-centered design).
