Objective

Water Shores. Redefining the Swiss Delta. This studio in landscape architecture is about redefining nature in part of the delta of the Rhône river on the upper shore of Lake Geneva. The goal is to create a series of artificial shores with a diversity uses for the neighbouring towns.

Content

This studio in landscape architecture is about redefining nature in part of the delta of the Rhône river on the upper shore of Lake Geneva. The goal is to create a series of artificial shores with a diversity uses for the neighbouring towns. Projects will take into account the dynamic principles of river flow over time, this will in turn influence topography and vegetation as well as new urban infrastructures and human activities. The designs will work with the river forces at stake to create a rapidly changing and evolving environment open to a variety of transformations over the seasons. The studio will focus on the design of new landscape spaces in relation to human activity, combining both natural and technical transformations. The method used will require site models with precise topographic detailing, as well as plans, sections and sketching at various scales. During the semester, a mix of both analogue and computer design tools will be developed to achieve our goals. The resulting designs will create an entirely new type of landscape vision and use, that translate a significant change of attitude and approach to the dynamic water environments of the Alps in this Century.
