Abstract

The students will learn methods and tools on how to approach problems of product structuring and configuration. Based on typical questions the students get the understanding for the topic and the interrelations between the single aspects in enterprises. The lecture imparts the theoretical knowledge to be applied and discussed in cases closed to the industrial practice.

Objective

A major aim of the Digital Product is to control the variety of products in enterprises. For dealing with variant products and according to the aims of configurable products it is a premise to have well structured and modularised product families. This lecture gives a theoretical and methodological introduction about product structuring and configuration. Farther some software tools supporting the structuring and the configuration activities are presented. Finally practical cases provide an insight into the product structuring and the configuration aspects in enterprises.

Content

The role of products in the approach of the Digital Product; definition of the major concepts used by structuring and configuring; analysis of cases in enterprises; methods of product structuring and configuration in development process and during the product life-cycle; the K- & V-Matrix; definition, modeling and representation of configuration knowledge; presentation of some configuration tools; integration of the methods and the tools in the processes of enterprises; presentation of Wiki as an approach for modeling unstructured configuration knowledge
