Content

This course offers an introduction to the methods we use in literary study to analyse the functioning of poems, plays and novels. Such analysis is intended to help us understand how and why we enjoy books, and to give us a language with which we can discuss them. The course is intended for ETH students who want to broaden their horizon of English literature, and keep in touch with the language. To do this, we will study three 'highlights' of English literature: William Blake, Songs of Innocence and Experience; James Joyce, Dubliners; Arthur Miller; Death of a Salesman.
