Objective

To give an overview of nutrition in developing countries and to provide a basis for better understanding of nutritional issues in resource poor areas.

Content

The impact of poor nutrition on growth, development and productivity during the life cycle is discussed. A major focus is on nutrition in vulnerable population groups, i.e. infants, children under 5 years of age and women of child-bearing age. In particular, the importance of adequate nutrition early in life (breast-feeding, complementary feeding) is discussed in relation to health.
