Last Updated: 2026-02-05 14:59:34

Abstract

This course focuses on the interactions of insects with their abiotic & biotic environment. It introduces the role of insects in ecosystems. The diversity of insects is discussed. Function & processes of interspecifc interactions are exemplified with new research findings. Furthermore, multitrophic interactions, with special emphasis on chemical ecology, are explained & exemplified.

Objective

Students will have an overview about the function of insects in ecosystems, how insects interact with their abiotic and biotic environment, & how they adapt to different environmental conditions. In particular, the students will have learned about the processes of interspecific interactions involving insects on various trophic levels and the strategies of insects during these interactions. Also, they will have a good understanding about the function & importance of multitrophic interactions involving insects.
