Abstract
Coping with complex problems, with a special focus on the human dimension, is studied by looking at rural development and culture. The importance of striving for social, spiritual and cultural sustainability is worked out. Case studies referring to current questions and problems deepen contents of "Rural Sociology I" and give insight into the possibility of applying empiric social research.

Content
Part I: Rural development and rural culture: conflict between traditional structures and the modern demands for high performance. The importance of the application of socal, spiritual and cultural sustainability will be worked out. Part II: Rural sociology and project work will be focussed by studying selected chapters aiming at deepening the contents of "Rural Sociology I", referring to current questions and problems, by case studies. Insight into the possibilities of applying empiric social research.
