Objective

Part I: Understanding the atmospheric processes relevant to agrarian and forest meteorology (H. Richner). Part II: Understanding the interactions between atmospheric processes and the biosphere. (C. Defila)

Content

Part I: Discussion of the atmospheric processes relevant to agrarian and forest meteorology. Measurement of tem-perature, atmospheric humidity, wind, radiation, flow of heat and humidity. Demonstration of interaction between on the one hand weather and climate elements and on the other biological systems. Part II: The influence of weather and climate on the biosphere and on farming and forestry. Discussion of practical uses e.g. frost warnings, vegetation development, phenology, pest control, climate change. Introduction to the ser-vices and products of the Swiss Meteorological Institute.
