Objective

Documentation and analysis of culture specific perceptions and values of trees, forests and the environment in or-der to enhance awareness with regard to perceptions and use of nature and renewable natural resources.

Content

Based on an account of the historical foundations and development of the rationale and culture of forest use and management, themes such as the various forest functions are analysed from the cultural science's perspective. Furthermore, several examples of tree and forest management in non-European cultures are presented and dis-cussed in these contexts.
