Content
First Semester: Building materials. Essential materials for construction and design: mineral materials, wood, metal, glass and synthetics are presented and compared with regard to their constructional, physical and chemical characteristics, energy content, recyclability, sustainability and consistency of quality. These lectures are coordinated with those on statics. A terminological basis is established for later contact with consultants and relevant literature. Second Semester: The fundamentals of the relevant factors for urban planning are introduced. These include: the fundamentals of sound and sound distribution; the propagation of noise in the built environment, and noise protection as well as room acoustics. Daylighting and its factors and optimization are also presented. The fundamentals of fire protection, the conditions favorable to the start of a fire and its development in time and spread in the building are discussed. The flammable behavior of different materials is presented.
