Quantum Excitations in Condensed Matter
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:02:31
Content
This course gives a solid introduction into a wide range of lattice and magnetic interactions in solid matter. It focuses on novel ground states which arise from strong fluctuations in materials and can lead to quantum coherence over macrocopic length scales. It describes how systems can fundamentally change the nature of their ground states by crossing quantum critical points. The course goes through a range of interesting experiments and calculations which exemplify the introduced concepts. Experimental techniques are introduced wherever necessary. This course is interesting to the experimentalist with an interest in theory, but it is also interesting for theorists who want to deepen their understanding of experimental techniques in the field of strongly-correlated electron systems.
