Abstract

The course will give an introduction to numerical methods, aimed at mathematics and physics majors. It covers numerical linear algebra,quadrature, interpolation and approximation methods as well as numerical quadrature techniques, their error analysis and implementation.

Objective

Knowledge of fundamental methods in computational mathematics, their analysis and implementation in MATLAB

Content

Errors in numerical computation, numerical solution of llinear systems of equations, nonlinear equations (scalar and systems), Interpolation (possibly trigonometric, FFT), extrapolation, linear and nonlinear least squares, matrixeigenvalue problems
