Abstract

Introduction to engineering mechanics: kinematics, statics and dynamics of rigid bodies and systems of rigid bodies.

Objective

Introduction to kinematics, statics and dynamics of rigid bodies and systems.

Content

Basic notions: velocity, rigid body, force, couple, power; kinematics of rigid bodies. Statics: force-couple system, centroid, equilibrium, principle of virtual work, constraint, analytical statics, dry friction. Dynamics: acceleration, inertial force, d’Alembert’s principle, Newton’s laws of motion, energy, equations of motion of rigid bodies, angular momentum for planar motion.
