Objective

Thorough comprehension of how to handle dangers and risks using the examples of numerous natural hazards. Intensified understanding of partial factors causing natural hazards, as well as procedures and protective measures.

Content

Basic definitions, legal principles, overview of major natural hazards (causes, damage assessment, significance). Safety and risk (endangerment, vulnerability, loss of value). Engineering-type transfer into practice (hazard assess-ment, safety planning, acceptable risk, SIA 160, cost-effectiveness, evaluation possibilities in multiple projects. Socio-economic implications (how society copes with risks). Land use planing (hazard mapping).
