Abstract

An overview on the chronological development of chemistry from the ancient to the twentieth century is given. The lecture is focused on famous chemists and their achievements, and on evolution of theory and model concepts in chemistry of modern times. Historical experiments are demonstrated.

Chronological development of chemistry from the ancient to the twentieth century, people and their achievements, alchemy (method, cultural background, applicability of theories), evolution of theory and model concepts in chemistry of modern times (for example): phlogiston theory, radical theory, atomic and molecular models of the early nineteenth century, type theory, valence theory, development of stereochemistry, bonding models, chemical thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, quantum mechanics.
