Abstract
Introduction to programming in Java. Procedural foundations of programming and outlook to object oriented programming. Variables, types, assignments, control structures (branch, loop), data structures, algorithms, line graphics, Java applets, graphical user interface. Writing small programs. Working with a professional programming environment (Eclipse).
Objective
The students will be able to write simple programs and to modify existing programs.
Content
This course covers variables, control structures (branch, loop), algorithms, data structures, and a first introduction to modularisation and objectoriented programming. In the exercices the students train programming skills (in the programming language JAVA) using electronic tutorials (E.Tutorials). Students can solve the E.Tutorials on their own laptop or in the computer labs at ETH. The software used in this course runs on MS Windows, MacOS X and Linux.

Allgemeine erdwissenschaftliche Fächer (Für den Erwerb des Bachelor-Diploms muss jede Lerneinheit der Allgemeinen Erdwissenschaftlichen Fächer belegt und die zugehörige Leistungskontrolle erbracht werden. Es muss nicht jede Leistungskontrolle bestanden werden, es müssen mindestens 29 von 35 möglichen Kreditpunkten erworben werden. Die fehlenden 6 KP sind im dritten Studienjahr mit anderen erdwissenschaftlichen Fächern zu kompensieren. Eine der beiden angebotenen Lerneinheiten zur Programmierung (251-0840-00; 251-0842-00) muss belegt werden.)
