Objective

Knowledge of structure, operating range, and control concepts of modern induction motor drives, synchronous motor drives and most recent concepts and operating concepts of high frequency DC/DC converters and AC/AC-matrix converters. Understanding multi-pulse converter transformer connections and mains current formation. Consolidation of the understanding of theoretical concepts by detailed analysis of the selection of the concept, design, circuit-oriented realization and experimental analysis of signal and power circuits of industrial power electronic systems.

Content

Induction motor drives, principle of operation, flux-orientated control, induction motor drives with restricted speed range, variable frequency synchronous motor drives. Cycloconverters, line-commutated, pulse-width modulated, matrix converter. Multi-pulse converter circuits, transformer connections, mains current formation. Line-commutated three-phase AC controller. DC/DC converters, soft-switching, resonant converter. Design of power electronic systems, three-phase PWM rectifier, single-phase DC/AC converter, standards, EMI. Topological relations of power electronic circuits, chaotic behavior of power electronic systems.
