Abstract
Objective
Are you up for a challenge? Within a team of 4-5 students, you will build a small robotic vehicle from scratch to navigate through a maze, with increasing difficulty levels. The robot will be based on a ROBOT CAR KIT 01 hardware and an STM32 platform as embedded system, with you adding and interfacing sensors and actuators, as well as writing the firmware to interact with all of these components and move the robot through the maze. Designing and building the electronics, firmware and hardware for your robot will require you to apply theoretical knowledge from NUS, SigSys, informatics or control engineering to a real-world task – and how they fit together to make a robotic system work. Recommended for 3rd to 4th semester bachelor students, this course will repeat and provide some basics in project management, problem solving as well as recap essential engineering concepts needed to solve the (simpler) tasks. Finally, the course concludes with a 6-week project phase, where you and your team will build fully working prototype electronics, firmware and, where needed, mechanics, to fulfill the overall project task. In the last week we will have a small competition between the teams – How far will your team navigate through the maze? Will your team be the fastest to reach the final goal?
