Abstract
The course will provide both a theoretical and practical introduction to key concepts in gene expression. Students will be introduced to the research field in lectures, conduct research projects related to current research projects of the Jonas lab in small groups, discuss current literature in a seminar, and learn how to design a scientific poster and present their data in a poster session.
Objective
The course aims to introduce technologies used to investigate regulation of gene expression in human cells and ribonucleoprotein assembly at a molecular level. At the end of the course, students should have a practical understanding of hypothesis-driven research and experiment design in the field of gene regulation pathways and be able to present and discuss research findings.
Content
Students will be engaged in research projects ranging from gene transcription to RNA maturation and posttranscriptional gene regulation in vitro and in human cells. Students will design, perform, and evaluate experiments and they will present and discuss their own as well as published research findings.
