Last Updated: 2026-07-21 00:35:38

Abstract

This module focuses on applied concepts of early pharmaceutical profiling, formulation design and market product development in a complementary manner to the concepts taught in compulsory courses. It is built considering recent trends in pharmaceutical field and real-life practical case studies in industrial working environment.

Objective

Students apply strategic and critical thinking in application of research, technical and regulatory concepts, specifically related to: - understand technical development stages through the journey from molecule to pharmaceutical product - can define critical scientific and strategic attributes fitting to the nuances of early and late stages of drug development - can determine the product concept in relation to the given molecule properties with perspectives of user needs, clinical requirements and environmental sustainability - can apply reflective and critical thinking utilizing real life experience based case studies Along with building allied competencies to foster career development: - strategic and critical thinking, problem-solving, decision making, team work, Adaptability and flexibility

Content

This module is complementary and brings in early product development aspects leading to the full “Drug Product Development” topics that are covered in the compulsory course. Overall, it will provide both thematic overview and key considerations to make a drug molecule to a pharmaceutical product. Pharmaceutical development operates in a dynamic but fragmented environment wherein close inter-relation and collaboration of different skills & steps is the major driver for success. The following topics are covered: - Molecule profiling and evolving pipeline needs - Physico-chemical and biopharmaceutic principles - Pharmaceutical product development phases and its clinical interface - Target product profile in response to patient and market needs
