Abstract

In this reading circle, students will critically engage with a range of newspapers to reflectboth on content itself and on the ways information is framed.Which news is foregrounded, and what is left aside? By whom, and according to which narratives? What does it mean to stay ' informed'?It also aims to offer a collective space to question the structures in which we read, write and study.

Objective

In this reading circle, students will critically engage with a range of newspapers and media sources to reflect both on the content itself and on the ways information is framed. The newspapers we read would be chosen collectively according to the interests of the group, but the aim would be to compare how the same events are treated across different political positions and scale (local, national, international), and media formats (print, digital, social media, etc.). Alongside the newspapers themselves, the reading circle would offer a space to reflect on the informational and media structures in which we read, write, and study. We will look at editorial practices, informational ecosystems, and their relationship to academic forms of knowledge production. Each session will be paired with a theoretical/secondary reading to support these discussions. More broadly, the seminar aims to interrogate the relationship between information and knowledge, as well as the historical transformations brought about by changing media environments.
