Responsible AI in the Age of Intelligent Systems: Safety, Governance & Value Creation for Deep Tech
Last Updated: 2026-06-03 00:07:42
Abstract
The seminar sits at a distinctive intersection that no other ETH Zürich programme currently occupies:AI Safety and Governance as a design constraint, not a compliance afterthoughtValue creation frameworks applied to deep tech domains: energy systems, signal processing, photonics, hardware and semiconductor supply chainsStrategic communication — how engineers translate technical ideas
Objective
Upon completion, students will be able to: Critically evaluate AI opportunities and risks within D-ITET core domains — energy systems, signal processing, photonics, communications hardware, and supply chains Apply AI safety and governance frameworks (EU AI Act, International AI Safety Report 2026, Swiss regulatory context) as integral engineering constraints, not retrospective compliance exercises Conduct structured risk audits and red-teaming exercises on AI-embedded physical systems Map technical ideas to responsible deployment pathways — from prototype to policy-ready product Articulate technical value propositions to non-technical audiences: investors, regulators, and public bodies Produce a concise discussion paper synthesising their chosen angle on AI safety, governance or value creation in a D-ITET-relevant domain
