Advanced Propulsion System Operations and Equipment Design
Last Updated: 2026-06-03 00:07:58
Abstract
The main objectives of the course are to provide detailed information on propulsion system operations including refueling, passivation, priming, failure identification, refurbishment for re-useability and combination with life support system operations. Also the course will present detailed information on component designs and functionalities as used within space propulsion systems.
Objective
By the end of the course the student shall be able to describe the operations of a propulsion system from the starting point - manufacturing phase up to the very end of the lifetime - disposal phase covering also special operations like refueling failure detection, isolation and recovery. Further the student shall know different component designs and functionalities and shall be able to select the best design based on set of requirements.
Content
Within the Advanced Propulsion System Operations and Equipment Design course lectures are given on a bi-weekly schedule. The information provided in the lectures will be supported by bi-weekly exercises. In parallel to the lectures and exercises a student project needs to be performed in order to foster propulsion system engineering, testing, verification and demonstration at the end of the semester.
