Abstract
The following topics will be discussed: Basic principles of epidemiology and global burden of disease distribution, Health systems and health system strengthening, including economic aspects and health insurance, communicable diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Malaria, tuberculosis, and neglected tropical diseases, mother and child health, non-communicable diseases, and transition in health in LMICs
Objective
This course aims to provide a public health-driven overview of the most important topics related to health and health care in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). After the module, participants shall have a broad understanding of challenges for health, health care, and health systems in LMICs. They shall be able to discuss more in depth some major global health topics, such as health systems, transition in health, malaria, neglected tropical diseases, and HIV/AIDS. The course will provide an insight into current strategies and approaches addressing major global health topics.

MAS in Global Cooperation and Sustainable Development (The compulsory courses of NADEL are accessible only for students of the MAS in Global Cooperation and Sustainable Development and for qualified employees with at least two years experience in development cooperation and a Master's level or equivalent level of education as recognized by ETH. PhD students doing empirical research in development cooperation may be admitted "sur Dossier". The elective courses are open to master students of the ETH with registration/ waiting list. MAS students do have priority.)
