Abstract
Seminars by invited speakers covering selected topics in microbiology.Students enrolled in this seminar series for course credit will take in-person quizzes immediately after each seminar, and submit summary essays every three weeks.
Objective
1. Gain broad exposure to diverse microbiological research topics and emerging methodologies. 2. Develop the ability to critically analyze and summarize scientific presentations, and engage in scientific discussion. 3. Recognize and adopt diverse presentation and argumentation strategies.
Content
The Microbiology Seminar Series invites researchers to present current work in the area of microbiology. For enrolled students, each seminar is followed by a short on-site quiz that assesses comprehnsion and critical engagement with the talk. Every three weeks, students submit a one-page written analysis that develops skills in scientific summary, methodological critique, and synthesis of scientific presentations. The course combines breadth of exposure to current microbiological research with structured training in scientific listening, critical analysis, and academic writing.
