Abstract
Basic concepts of manufacturing engineering, input-process-output model, cost accounting, production drawings/workpiece description, quality control, process simulation basics, overview of the main process groups according to DIN 8580: primary forming, forming, cutting, joining.
Objective
• Understand the functional principles of the most important manufacturing processes • Know key terms in production engineering and related disciplines (e.g. cost accounting) • Describe manufacturing processes as systems, i.e. model the dependencies of the output on the input variables • Understand / apply the basics of manufacturing process simulation • Apply criteria for the selection of manufacturing processes in order to identify suitable manufacturing processes for a manufacturing task • Know the basics of production-orientated design • Manufacturing machines, metrology and quality inspection
Content
The lecture provides an introduction to the basic concepts of manufacturing technology and offers an insight into the operations of a manufacturing facility. Various manufacturing processes are introduced, including forming, shaping, cutting, and joining methods. These are discussed in terms of their design, product-defining properties, and application limits, as well as the associated manufacturing tools. Additionally, fundamental concepts of industrial metrology are covered, along with the machine tools used in manufacturing.
