Industrial Internship

Industriepraktikum

Prerequisites: successful participation in the compulsory modules Fundamentals, Methods and Integration. The industrial internship for the Major Engineering Geology programme should be completed at the beginning of the second year of the MSc programme. Students are responsible for finding their internship position and completing the internship after consultation with Dr Heike Willenberg. The practical is is pre-defined in a work plan and documented by the student with a poster. The guidelines for the industrial internship are published on the website of the Chair of Engineering Geology; further information is available on the Moodle page for the industrial internship.

Abstract

During the internship the students gain a first understanding of their future professional practice. This includes learning the various conditions under which engineering geological solutions are developed and implemented in practice.

Objective

Within the internship, the student work on a challenging issue within the practice of engineering geology, and deliver a concrete solution. The students deepen their fundamental and applied knowledge of engineering geology through practical applications to a real case study.

Content

During the internship the students gain a first understanding of their future professional practice. This includes learning the technical/scientific, planning, administrative, economic and social conditions under which engineering geological solutions are developed and implemented in practice. The industry practical is supervised both from the industry partner and ETH. The regular duration of the practical is 10 weeks.
