Last Updated: 2026-06-03 00:07:33
Abstract
This course provides an introduction to heritage protection law at all levels of the federal system. It covers the legal concept of monuments, legal sources, instruments and procedures, as well as the integration of heritage protection law into spatial planning and construction law. An excursion illustrates the role of cultural heritage law and encourages critical discussion.
Objective
Participants will be able to understand the legal framework for historic preservation. They will be familiar with the relevant legal sources, the available tools, and how they function. They will be able to assess which historic preservation measures are subject to legal procedures and when, as well as the role that historic preservation plays in this context.
Content
The course covers the following topics: the legal concept of a historic monument, sources of law, selected instruments and procedures, and connections to spatial planning and building law. To complement this theoretical component (part 1), a field trip will be conducted (part 2) to understand and discuss how the material learned applies in practice.
