Bestimmungskurs aquatische Makroinvertebraten
Last Updated: 2026-06-03 00:08:08
Abstract
The course introduces participants to the diversity, identification, and ecological significance of aquatic macroinvertebrates in Switzerland. Participants learn about the most important groups, identify common species based on characteristic features, and identify other representatives using standard identification keys. An excursion provides practical experience with common sampling methods.
Objective
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: 1. Correctly name the most common aquatic macroinvertebrates in Switzerland at the order or family level. 2. Recognize and describe characteristic morphological features for the identification of typical taxa. 3. Confidently apply common identification keys for Switzerland. 4. Implement methods for sampling and preservation in the field and reflect on their areas of application. 5. Explain the relevance of aquatic macroinvertebrates for ecological research and bioindication.
Content
Theory and laboratory exercises: • Introduction to the taxonomic diversity of aquatic invertebrates (e.g., crustaceans, insect larvae) • Distinguishing features of important orders and families • Practical exercises in identification using standard identification literature • Discussion of the role of aquatic macroinvertebrates in research and environmental monitoring Field excursion: • Practical application of sampling and preservation techniques • Application of theoretical knowledge under real conditions • Date: Tuesday, October 20, 2026 Language: The course will be conducted in German (presentation slides can be provided in English and translation of the most important things during the course is possible).
