Colloquium in Biomechanics

Abstract
In this course, students attend 14 colloquium sessions featuring talks by PhD candidates, postdocs and senior researchers from academia and industry. Students must participate in at least 10 sessions and write abstracts for 10 presentations, broadening their biomechanics knowledge and sharpening scientific communication.
Objective
By the end of this course, students will be able to: (1) synthesize and summarize key concepts from current biomechanics research presentations; (2) enhance their scientific writing skills through the creation of abstracts; and (3) gain a broad overview of the interdisciplinary field of biomechanics, preparing them for more advanced research or professional work in the area.
Content
This colloquium-style biomechanics course spans 14 sessions, each featuring three to four presentations. Students will encounter a wide array of topics, ranging from mechanobiology and tissue engineering to whole-body, bone, and movement biomechanics, as well as topics on the intersection between biomechanics and biomaterials.

Lecture Notes
No lecture notes or slide decks will be provided because presenters frequently share unpublished data. Students earning credit are expected to take detailed notes during each talk and produce a one-page, conference-style abstract summarizing the content.
Literature
No mandatory literature list is provided. Students are expected to independently identify and consult relevant scientific literature corresponding to the topics of their abstracts.
