Abstract

This InterFocus Course will provide a broad, hands-on introduction to Information Security, introducing adversarial thinking and security by design as key approaches to building secure systems.

Objective

This course will introduce key concepts from Information Security, both from attack and defence perspectives. Students will gain an appreciation of the complexity and challenge of building secure systems.

Content

The course is organised in four-week segments. In each segment, a new concept from Information Security will be introduced. The overall scope will be broad, including cryptography, protocol design, system security, and privacy.

Students will be graded based on:- (70% of the grade) three lab projects, to be completed during the semester. Each project will involve the production of either a software artifact or a written piece of work depending on the topic.- (30% of the grade) three quizzes that will be conducted in-class and in-person during designated lecture slots.Last cancellation/deregistration date for this graded semester performance: 5 October 2026. Please note that after that date no deregistration will be accepted and the course will be considered as "fail".
