Technology Entrepreneurship for Chemical Engineers

Abstract
Technology ventures are significantly changing the global economic picture. This course offers the fundamentals of entrepreneurship in new technology ventures through theory sessions covering some of the main concepts and frameworks in entrepreneurship and practice sessions enabling students to work on their own business ideas.
Objective
This course provides theory-grounded knowledge and practice-driven skills for finding business opportunities, verifying business assumption, developing business models and financing new ventures. A critical understanding of do's and don'ts is provided through highlighting and discussing real-life examples and cases. The project work links technology entrepreneurship with challenges in industry. Main topics covered are success factors in the creation of new firms, including discovering an opportunity, developing a business model around that opportunity, and financing a venture.
Content
Weekly sessions: +/- 10 sessions of which 5 will be practice-oriented - developing your own business idea in small teams - and 5 will be theory-oriented - understanding some of the key concepts and frameworks in entrepreneurship. Typical format for theory sessions (2h): 15': Introduction 60': Explanation of some key concepts / frameworks 15': Discussion related to topic (in groups) 20': Plenary discussion 10': Q&A Typical format for practice sessions (2h): 15': Introduction 105': Customised business idea coaching for each of the teams (Typically 6 teams will get 45' of coaching each by two coaches).

A few case studies or popular business examples will be provided for the theory sessions. There is no textbook.
