Abstract
This laboratory course provides further advanced training of experimental skills closer to a realistic research environment. These are design and implementation of experiments, measurements, data analysis including uncertainties, and interpretation. The experimental work has to be completed by a written report. Students carry out experiments provided by different research of the department.
Objective
Students learn to perform advanced experiments and associated scientific report writing. The following aspects are emphasized: - understanding physical phenomena - employing structured approach to experiments with complex instruments - using the relevant statistical methods for data analysis - interpretation of measurements and uncertainties - presenting experiments and results in a scientifically correct way - respecting ethical aspects of research and scientific communication
Content
We offer advanced experiments covering the following topics: nuclear and particle physics, quantum electronics, solid state physics, and astrophysics.
Resources
Lecture Notes
Instructions in English are available for most experiments.
