Abstract

The elective course explores and deepens interconnected concepts and materials from a variety of artistic practices. In a series of presentations, artists and researchers introduce multiple approaches of art-based work. The course encompasses multidisciplinary research fields, ranging from urban anthropology and writing methods to film, sculpture, and sound.

Objective

Students learn methods and approaches in art through techniques in film, writing, performance, installation, sound, sculpture, and mixed media. The lecture series enables students to analyze and discuss processes inherent to works of art.

Content

During the course, a cast of lecturers situates diverse artistic practices and addresses underlying methods both conceptually and materially. Practical and theoretical investigations, poetic and analytical material explorations, collective exchange and experiments are some of the approaches introduced. The presentations of several key topics on artistic methodologies discuss how materials and techniques shape new ideas, how images circulate and how concepts travel and are negotiated. The subject areas covered aim to reinforce the work on art through different perspectives to encourage students in their respective practices.
