Abstract

The course focuses on manufacturing of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) lightweight structures. It covers basic requirements, fiber & matrix materials, manufacturing process modelling & implementation, joining technologies, quality control & testing and economic & ecological aspects. The course combines lectures (2 h/week) with 7 hands-on lab exercises (3 h) and 5 written exercises (1 h).

Objective

to provide thorough know-how about manufacturing processes for advanced fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) lightweight structures

Content

- introduction - FRP lightweight structures including aircraft & automotive structures - materials: fibers, textiles & matrix systems - manufacturing processes: FRP processing basics and selected FRP processes like wet lamination, prepreg processing, RTM / VARI and processes for thermoplastic FRPs - joining of FRP components - quality control and testing - recycling & environmental aspects
