Last Updated: 2026-06-03 00:14:16
Abstract
In this course, students will explore key topics in bioethics and digital ethics while developing professional skills such as presentation, critical thinking, and constructive scholarly dialogue. Over the 13-week semester, at least two ETHix seminars and two Bioethics Journal Clubs will be held.
Objective
Participants will engage with relevant and new bioethics and digital ethics content, but also develop their professional skills including presentation skills, the ability to engage in constructive and critical scholarly dialogue around potentially controversial issues, and skills in critical thinking and assessing the scholarly literature related to bioethics. Over the 13 week semester, we will schedule no less than 2 ETHix seminars and 2 Bioethics Journal clubs.
Content
This course will consist of active participation in two seminar series. First the ETHix seminar series ( https://bioethics.ethz.ch/Events.html ), brings in a series of guest speakers, both internal to ETH and external universities, who are experts in an area related to bioethics in health ethics or AI/digital ethics. Speakers generally present for 45 minutes on a topic of their own research, and attendees engage in an interactive dialogue about the topic for the remaining time. Second, the Ethics Journal Club. In this series, members of the Health Ethics and Policy Lab will guide discussion about normative or empiric bioethics work that has been recently published. Attendees are expected to have read the paper in advance of the session, and to actively engage in the discussion.
