Abstract
This course aims to provide an introduction to the methods and main themes of contemporary anthropology. The lecturer will refer to his ethnographic research in various islands of overseas Europe and will structure each lesson around a key word. “Relationship,” “identity,” “environment,” “heritage,” and “creativity” are some of the topics that will be covered in the course.
Objective
The overall objective of the course is to show that the cultural diversity of human societies and their forms of relationship with the environment provide an extraordinary tool for rethinking the future in a decolonial and sustainable way.
Content
This course aims to provide an introduction to the methods and main themes of contemporary anthropology. The lecturer will refer to his ethnographic research in various islands of overseas Europe (New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna in the Pacific, Réunion in the Indian Ocean) and will structure each lesson around a key word. “Relationship,” “identity,” “environment,” “heritage,” and “creativity” are some of the topics that will be covered in the course. Drawing on his experience in disseminating anthropology and experimenting with new languages, the instructor will also work with students from the perspective of scientific communication. The overall objective of the course is to show that the cultural diversity of human societies and their forms of relationship with the environment provide an extraordinary tool for rethinking the future in a decolonial and sustainable way.
