P+: Project-based Physics Lab
P+: Projektbasiertes Physikpraktikum
Last Updated: 2026-06-03 00:14:40
Abstract
This course offers a project-based alternative to the conventional physics lab course. Students can plan, build, carry out, and evaluate their own physics experiments.
Objective
The explorative learning in small groups of 6 students promotes additional competencies in the areas of interdisciplinary thinking, project management, teamwork, and critical assessment of one's own projects.
Content
In the P+, students are allowed to find their own physics projects which they can investigate in the lab. Over six two-weeks cycles, the students define a physics problem, discusse how to approach it and what they could investigate, plan an appropriate experimental setup, and finally carry out the experiment. Due to the explorative nature of such projects, students naturally encounter interdisciplinary thinking, and have to deal with unforeseen difficulties and challenges.
