Abstract

Leadership is not an innate gift but rather an acquired skill. Having clarity about a leader’s core tasks, being aware of possible leadership styles but also of available leadership tools all help you to identify and refine your own individual way of leading so that people will wish to follow you.

Objective

By attending this last of in total four seminars covering leadership skills, you will: • Understand the core tasks of a leader to become a proficient leader yourself: Getting to know the various leadership styles and trying some of them out in different settings helps you to develop a leadership style of your own. • Apply leadership tools and understand leadership in today’s world: Know how to apply the various leadership tools so that they match with your one leadership behaviour and then reflect about how leadership may evolve to respond to today’s changes in the business world.

Content

This seminar targets people that lead or wish to lead – in the role of project leader, subject matter expert, scrum/agile master, team lead in a self-organised team or hierarchical leader – and want to improve their leadership skills to build and maintain sustainable (work) relationships of any kind. In order to not only learn about tools and strategies to make leadership more effective, but also to directly try them out and test them, the seminar builds on a mixture of theory inputs, discussions, self-reflecting moments, group work with short presentations as well as some role plays. This shall enable you to return to your daily (work) life as a better leader but also to feel more confident when thinking of the next challenges of being a current or future leader. The first seminar day focuses on helping you have clarity about the core tasks of a leader so that you can become a proficient leader yourself. Via an overview of the various leadership styles that have been described during the last hundred years, you will enlarge but also focus your own understanding of leadership. Trying out the two currently most important leadership styles yourself – transactional and transformational leadership – will give you the chance to become active yourself. Analysing the challenges of leadership during reorganisations, cultural transformations etc. will be the second focus of the day. You will learn more about your role as change agent so that you become capable of not only handling moments of change yourself but to guide others through insecurities and transitions. The second seminar day focuses on leadership tools and how they can be applied to sustain your own leadership behaviour but it will also be the opportunity to reflect about current and future changes in leadership. By learning more about the most prominent leadership tools, e.g. Management by Objectives (MbO) and Objectives and Key Results (OKR), mission, vision and purpose or company culture, you will be able to use and implement such tools with the desired effect yourself. Jointly discussing how leadership may evolve further while considering the current disruptions in the business environment will in addition prepare you for the future challenges as a leader.
