Abstract

This lecture builds-up on the lecture "Production Machines I" and covers the fundamentals of precision engineering and specific applications of AI in manufacturing. In addition to AI-based approaches, machine requirements are explained, including an introduction to the areas of metrology and precision engineering.

Objective

The students understand the key interrelationships of high-precision production systems from the perspective of Precision Engineering, as well as the potential applications of AI in various areas of manufacturing. In the first part of the lecture, students learn AI-based methods and how these approaches are applied in an industrial context and the second part focuses on the fundamentals of precision machines and the associated measurement technology.

Content

The course provides knowledge about machine connectivity and process automation using artificial intelligence (AI). Participants explore key technologies and protocols for machine connectivity as well as the application of AI methods for optimizing and automating production processes. Practical exercises deepen the theoretical knowledge and allow for direct application to real industrial scenarios. Additionally, the course covers an introduction to the fundamentals and applications of precision engineering and measurement technology in machine tools, including the interpretation of measurement results. Participants gain insight into the design of high-precision manufacturing systems and learn various methods for compensating deviations, including the systematic analysis of dynamic deviations and specific simulations of machine tools.
