Methods and tools for Developing Mechatronic Products
Methods and Tools for Developing Mechatronic Products
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 14:55:18
Abstract
Methods and tools for developing mechatronic systems and the integration of all involved domains. Usage of simulation of mechatronic systems during the development process using virtual prototypes. Virtual model for mechatronic products, conceptual studies in the early stage, event simulation and integration of controls, simulation of dynamics und kinematics, virtual initial operation.
Objective
The students should be able to structure and manage development projects having the “digital product” in mind. They will know about the benefits and usage of different methods and tools. The students should also be able to use the methods and tools inde-pendently in new designs. Teaching modules (can vary for different years) - The basics and the concept for the virtual model for mechatronic products (mp) - Preliminary studies of mp in the innovation process. - Methods for design and development of mp - Event simulation and Integration of Controls - Simulation of dynamics und kinematics of mp - Virtual initial operation
Content
The course enfolds the complete development process for mechatronic products, also covering the downstream processes like sales and assembling of the product. The new VDI 2206 guideline provides a basis for the development of mechatronic products. In the concept phase it is shown how concurrent engineering for mechatronic products is realized. The students are given an overview of state of the art methods and tools for developing mechatronic systems and the demands on the involved domains. By means of examples the students are given a deeper knowledge in chosen methods and tools. Adjacent the usage of simulation of mechatronic systems during the development process using virtual prototypes is shown. State of the art tools for simulation is presented and used by the student in predetermined examples. The virtual machine concept for a virtual initial operation is described, and the utilization of virtual models for the downstream processes like assembly, sales, service and marketing is shown. Using different examples the students should understand the dif-ferent perspectives of the product and create miscellaneous product instructions.
