Abstract
Introduction into plant pathology and plant protection. First insight into the following topics: significance of plant diseases, challenges in plant protection, nature of pathogens, interaction plant-pathogen-environment, quarantine organisms and imported diseases
Objective
gain an understanding of the causes and consequences of plant diseases in agroecosystems
Content
Significance of plant diseases for humans, the history of plant pathology. Koch's postulates, categories of infectious agents with examples, development of diseases, interaction between environment, pathogens and plants, control strategies. A double lesson is given by a guest lecturer from the FOAG on the subject of quarantine diseases, introduced diseases and pests, invasive pests: prevention, eradication strategies, control strategies. The course includes a full-day field trip where students have the opportunity to see plant diseases and pests in the field and discuss them with plant protection experts.
