Abstract

To be able to lead one needs a team. Consequently, it is helpful to understand one’s own personality better but to also learn how other people tick and how to interact with them. The better one manages such interactions – one could even speak of social transactions – the easier it becomes to positively influence collaboration and thus shape a team that is psychologically safe and high performing.

Objective

By attending this second of in total four seminars covering leadership skills, you will: - Understand yourself and others better: Get to know yourself and others to understand how personality comes about and how social interactions are influenced by it to adapt your own (leadership) behaviour accordingly. - Be able to shape teams and positively influence team dynamics: Understand the key ingredients of high performing teams and how they can be positively influenced to create a work environment you enjoy yourself.

Content

This seminar targets people that lead or wish to lead – in the role of project leader, subject matter expert, scrum/agile master, team lead in a self-organised team or hierarchical leader – and want to improve their team skills as they are key to build and maintain sustainable (work) relationships of any kind. In order to not only learn about tools and strategies to make your social interactions and thus your team contributions more positive, but also to directly try them out and test them, the seminar builds on a mixture of theory inputs, discussions, self-reflecting moments, group work with short presentations as well as some role plays. This shall enable you to return to your daily (work) life as a better team player but also to be ready for the challenges of being a current or future leader. The first seminar day focuses on helping you understand yourself and others better. You will learn how personality comes about and how it has been described through various personality typologies and transaction models. This enables you to align your interaction with the other person’s particularities and needs creating thus the basis for a mutually satisfying collaboration. The second seminar day focuses on helping you understand the key ingredients of successful teams and how you can positively influence them. Among others, you will learn more about informal team roles, you shall fully grasp the importance of the often mentioned psychological safety and will realise what kind of dysfunctions can destabilise a team. Furthermore, you will learn about the importance of feedback and how it can be formulated so that it shows its desired positive effects.
