Plant Pathology II
Last Updated: 2026-06-03 00:13:56
Abstract
Plant Pathology II focuses on disease control in agricultural ecosystems based on biological control methods, the use of pesticides, and the breeding of resistant plant varieties.
Objective
An understanding of the how biological control, pesticides and plant breeding can be used to achieve sustainable disease control. Knowledge on the use of alternative environment-friendly plant protection methods with the aim of reducing chemical pesticides. An understanding of the genetic basis of pathogen-plant interactions and appropriate methods for using resistance to control diseases in agroecosystems.
Content
Plant Pathology II focuses on disease control in agricultural ecosystems based on biological control methods, the use of pesticides, and the breeding of resistant plant varieties. One focus is on the promotion and use of beneficial microorganisms for biological control as an alternative to synthetic pesticides. Another focus is on the genetics of interactions between pathogens and plants as a basis for understanding the development of boom-and-bust cycles and methods that can be used to prevent the development of pathogen virulence and fungicide resistance.
