Forest vegetation and forest sites
Waldvegetation und Waldstandorte
Last Updated: 2026-06-03 00:14:54
Abstract
The lecture provides a systematic overview of the Swiss forest vegetation, its site conditions and methods of vegetation survey.
Objective
* Acquire an overview of important types of plant communities and their site conditions (in geographical and ecological terms) of forest vegetation in Switzerland. * Classify individual site types in terms of their ecology, use and conservation value. * Get to know important indicator plants of forest vegetation. * Interactions between sites and plant communities determine the appearance and function of ecosystems. Understand their causes and be able to assess their significance for practice (forest and landscape management, nature conservation). * Get to know factors that are decisive for the occurrence of certain site types and how these factors influence the composition of plant communities. * Become familiar with methods for the collection, evaluation and presentation of vegetation data and critically evaluate their informative value. Note: the lecture is held in German
Content
A systematic overview of the Swiss forest vegetation and its site conditions is given. Important site types, their characteristic plant composition, key factors and management guidelines are presented. Basic concepts and methods of vegetation science, problems of data survey and approaches to data analysis are discussed.
