Guarda-Workshop in Evolutionary Biology (Block course)
Last Updated: 2026-06-03 00:14:05
Abstract
This one week course is intended for students with a keen interest in evolutionary biology. The aim of the course is to develop a research project in small teams of 4-5 students. The students receive guidance by the "faculty" consisting of Prof. D. Ebert (U Basel) and Prof. S Bonhoeffer (ETHZ). Additionally two internationally reknown experts are invited every year.
Objective
The aim of the course is to work in small teams to first identify a research question, then develop a research plan, and eventually write a short research proposal. What you will learn beyond the individual research project are highly transferable skills such as developing ideas in a team, critically reflecting your own ideas as well as those of others, and shaping an idea into a research proposal.
