Project Work Geospatial Engineering
Projektarbeit Raumbezogene Ingenieurwissenschaften
Last Updated: 2026-06-03 00:14:41
Abstract
This project-based course offers students an insight into a selected challenge from the field of Geospatial Engineering. In addition to methodological and subject-specific competencies—depending on the chosen project—the course also fosters a variety of transferable skill such as teamwork, critical and scientific thinking, as well as competencies in writing and presenting
Objective
-The students know the basic rules of scientific work and integrity, and apply them to their work. -The students know and apply success factors for teamwork including team roles, team phases and reflection. -The students know and apply the elements of critical thinking, they identify and reflect their own position within discussions. -The students have obtained insight into a selected challenge within Geospatial Engineering and are able to share this insight with their fellow students. -The students know and apply fundamental principles of academic writing and presenting in order to prepare subject-specific content appropriately for the intended audience, and to critically evaluate the quality of their own and others’ texts based on established criteria
Content
The students chose one of the offered topics from which they choose one to develop a literature review. They work on this topic in groups of approximately four people. Group members discuss and plan their respective team roles, they take initiative and responsibility for the team result such that the project goals can be achieved. At the beginning of the semester, all students receive an introduction to academic work and writing, including research and literature management, content and logical structuring (structure, coherence, transitions), citation methods, and criteria for high-quality academic texts. The literature review is carried out in part during working hours that are individually scheduled by the groups. At pre-arranged milestones, students engage in exchanges with supervisors and other groups to receive feedback and reflect on the work process. The project results are documented in a written report (literature review) and presented orally at the end of the semester.
