Content
This module is all about hands-on learning. The class is designed around discussions, real-life cases, and scenarios, offering plenty of opportunities for debate, engagement, and collaboration. Because this is such an interactive course, preparation is key. To get the most out of it, make sure to do the readings and come ready to share your thoughts, ideas, and critiques with your classmates. This isn’t a spectator sport—it’s a chance to dive in, learn, and grow together. Since understanding group dynamics and processes is crucial to making sense of behaviour in organisations, some of the work will be done in small teams. Be ready to collaborate, participate in team discussions, and present your findings to the class. It’s a great opportunity to build your teamwork skills while exploring how organizations really function. On the first day, we will provide an introduction to Organizational Behaviour (OB) and why it matters in shaping workplaces. We will analyse motivation—what drives people, how it influences behavior, and how organisations could apply motivational theories in real-life scenarios. You will examine what keeps employees engaged and how organisations can create environments where individuals thrive. We will also be assessing the effectiveness of flexible working practices which are instrumental in keeping employees engaged. Through discussions and critical analysis, you will gain insights into managing these key aspects of organizational success. On the second day, we’ll dive into the world of decision-making, exploring the common biases that often sneak into our choices and discovering practical strategies to overcome them. These insights will help you sharpen your judgment and improve your ability to make thoughtful, unbiased decisions. We’ll also turn our focus to diversity and inclusion, unpacking how team dynamics are influenced by diverse perspectives. You’ll reflect on the benefits and challenges diversity brings to team performance, and together, we’ll identify ways to integrate differences to create meaningful value in diverse teams. Through exercises and discussions, you’ll learn how to unleash creative potential within a team and turn fresh ideas into actionable outcomes and drive innovation. On the third day, we will focus on power and influence, exploring the theories that explain where power comes from and how it can be effectively wielded. We will focus on key influencing tactics, evaluate their effectiveness in different scenarios, and consider how to apply them strategically in the workplace. We will also cover key concepts of social network theory as social networks play a critical role in today’s organizations, from securing funding for new ventures to recruiting top talent, facilitating employee development, or enhancing marketing efforts. Come prepared to engage, challenge yourself, and make the most of this learning experience!
